Non Toxic Makeup - You can trust Free of Titanium Dioxide

Titanium Dioxide Free Makeup

The Titanium Dioxide story begins with Bluescope steel. After receiving thousands of warranty claims for curious finger print shaped damage to their roofing panels.

They put a team of scientists to work to see what was causing all this damage.

Their scientists found that sunscreen residue from the roof installers fingertips was being transferred onto the panels during installation with Titanium Dioxide’s high photo-sensitivity, it was literally peeling the paint off the roofing panels.

Now if your an Aussie I’m sure you’re familiar with Bluescopes claims of “lasts a lifetime” “stands up to the harshest conditions”, well a little bit of left over sunscreen its all over!!

Now imagine the delicate skin on your face, and the faces of your children. It doesn’t take much to imagine what it must be doing to our poor skin each day as we layer on our sunscreen, foundation, concealers, eyeshadows & lipsticks all which contain titanium dioxide.

Its time to ditch the Titanium Dioxide & give your skin a break from the relentless damage.

How does Titanium Dioxide Damage show up on your Skin?

Age spots, wrinkles, sagging skin, inflammation, skin sensitivities, premature ageing & cancer are all known effects of Free Radical damage. The delicate skin on your face is being ravaged by Free Radicals every day when you apply your makeup (unless you’ve gone Titanium Dioxide Free).

The Science behind Free Radical Creation

"On absorption of UV light, photo-generated titanium dioxide particles create singlet oxygen, superoxide anions (O2-) and hydroxyl radicals (OH-) that are potent free radicals (1,2). Irradiated particles of titanium dioxide can induce oxidative damage to DNA (2) which can lead to the development of mutant cells and skin cancers (3,4,5,6) and lipid peroxidation of essential functions on the cell membrane (7)." Titanium Dioxide is a level 2 Carcinogen in the EU

The European Union have declared Titanium Dioxide to be a Level 2 Carcinogen in all concentrations above 1% The classification of Titanium Dioxide by the European Commission ensures products containing Titanium Dioxide will have to be clearly labelled as potentially carcinogenic (like cigarettes here in Australia). The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has identified Titanium Dioxide as a Group 2B Carcinogen - an agent that is “possibly carcinogenic” to humans but lacks sufficient human research.

France Bans Titanium Dioxide in all Foods

France's ban on the food additive Titanium Dioxide (E171) took effect on January 1st 2020, meaning products containing the whitening and opacity agent can no longer be sold in France.

Cancerous growths found in testing

French researchers gave E171 (the food-friendly name for Titanium Dioxide), to lab rats in their drinking water for 100 days. 40% of the exposed rats developed “preneoplastic lesions” or precancerous growths. The Titanium Dioxide also inhibited the immune systems of the rats and “accelerated” the growth of the lesions. France’s INRA institute said in a statement.“These results demonstrate a role in initiating and promoting the early stages of colorectal cancer formation,”. The most alarming part of this study is that it was only conducted for 100 days, I have been wearing makeup daily for at least the last fifteen years & would have eaten kilo's of lipstick in my life time - what effect has this had on my immune system & health??

Dangers of Sunscreen

Friends of the Earth revealed new testing results from the Australian Government’s National Measurement Institute, which found that many popular sunscreen and cosmetic products are using a potentially hazardous form of Titanium Dioxide -- anatase titanium dioxide. Six of the eight products tested, including well-known brands such as Nivea, L'Oreal, and CoverGirl, were found to contain this ingredient.

What does all of this mean for your skin & health?

Titanium dioxide is found in nearly all makeup & sunscreen. Studies have shown that products applied to the skin end up in the bloodstream within half an hour. With penetration rates depending on where they are applied. Absorption rates for your face & scalp are 5-10 times higher than on other parts of our body (Hotchkiss 1994). Ultimately, it comes down to whether you want to take the risk of having Titanium Dioxide in your blood stream?
